Annette Funicello danced in an amateur show in Fullerton, California, of Swan Lake when Walt Disney was introduced to her. She was only thirteen at the moment. The Funicello's Mickey Mouse Club teammates were furious at the time Funicello joined her cast later in the first season of the series, and not being required to audition. Disney had the right idea to take the decision as Funicello soon became the major character in The Mickey Mouse Club. She also had an original adventure tale titled Adventures in Dairyland. Funicello's potential as a teenage star was quickly realized. Disney hired Tutti Camerata an established arranger to aid her with her recording career. Annette, however, wasn't too enthusiastic about Funicello singing. Funicello became comfortable with making records and enjoyed the experience of working with Camerata. He was among a handful of that were arranging at 40 who understood the fundamentals of rock's early days. Annette Sings Anka was the third studio album and was probably the first to include the songs of rock stars as part of the repertoire. Funicello appeared on screen in Beach Party which was one of five hugely popular party flicks, often co-starring Frankie Avalon. Although produced by AIP the scripts were personally examined and approved by Walt Disney, in order to protect Annette's impeccable image.
